actually, upon closer inspection (a second picture) that tanned leather is actually oddly sized patches of human flesh all patched together to give the statue a ""lifelike"" appearance. gross???? ]

Yes, flesh is inherently much less interesting than bones. Still, don't be so disdainful. Human flesh leather is very versatile.
