Chang Geng has made a truly heinous decision and decided that he wants to go traveling. He even asked my permission. Do you know why this is a problem.
I'm probably not one to ask. My own rebellion was attempting to bring about the apocalypse. But it doesn't seem so significant, that his views are different than yours.
[ this is the longest @ marquis is typing.... this is pandora's box ]
Blinding me with their bald heads every time I walk into a room Having the audacity to smell like the inside of a stable in common company Reciting useless prayers instead of ever trying to fix anything Telling His Majesty lies about how doing nothing will surely solve every problem Do you know how much I have done and did to solve problems here? I survived our indulgence center and these monks insist it was a couple of Amitabhas that saved Great Liang! Bah!
Also insisting that vulture of an old abbot's crow mouth is utter law no matter what vile dog shit he spits that old Zhu Little Feet abbot who had the gall to tell a young me and everyone around me that I was an accursed, bad luck child and counter every good fate of every relative I've ever had The attack on the camp that harmed my senses was a year later. My parents died not long after that
And to top it off, their wretched, gossiping little mouths - not very Buddhist of them! - were what kept me from having any sort of relationship, because they used that very same curse to insist that was why the woman I was engaged to passed away. I never even met her! I was at the frontier! How could I possibly have influenced something like that!
And now they want to take Chang Geng off and fill his head with all sorts of lies. What if he comes back bald, Harrow. I won't be able to take it.

You know that I was raised within a religious order myself. And there are things I was taught there to believe that I no longer believe, and things that were done there that I believe to have been cruel. I discount none of that for your monks, either. Their superstition and fear is wrong and worthy of derision, and their treatment of you ill done.
But if Chang Geng is capable of thinking for himself rather than going along with whatever he was told, he may nonetheless find some value in that way of thinking. If he is capable of disregarding the superstitions and taking from it only what is useful to him. Perhaps you must merely trust him to not be so feckless and spineless as the others you've known.
[ huffs.... this is such a logical point... good reasoning....he'd expect nothing less from harrow, but also: the monks. ]
They're insidious, you know. It's not that I think him either of those things - the last thing Chang Geng is is spineless.
[ also he's having weird emotions about letting go to let him do this??? is this... is this good parenting? is he getting to being a decent parent? what ]
[Lol. It's fine. She understands this so completely. This is probably exactly how she'd handle it, too.]
Smart. Now to you, it is a test of loyalty that will result in your feelings being hurt if he defies you, whereas to him it is an unfair decree that makes him more likely to do it.
I didn't exactly have a choice! I'm a filial son of my nation! If the Emperor asks you to jump, you say how high, especially if it's to your face! I'm just saying, it's a cautionary tale
Besides, if you really want to think about it, Molly's two. So

They've ruined my life, personally. Multiple times. [ ? ] It's the principle of the thing, Harrow.

He *does* know how much I hate them, the brat.
[ well maybe not that good ]

I doubt he's doing it to hurt you. Have you talked to him about why he's drawn to it?

Well
no
I just told him he couldn't
[ no he's still a terrible parent ]

But, yes. I suppose I could
Go talk to him.
I'd have to admit why I don't like it and
Apologize, I suppose?
