the mistletoe meme. Congrats! You're stuck under the mistletoe with someone. Pucker up, buttercup. It could be forced, or it could be normal--it's your choice!
[It's your familiar(?) robot partner. Though she didn't look like this for most of the game, this is how she looks now that she's gone back to the Digital World full time.
Still, she clearly speaks with Kyoko's voice, slightly amused at being under this when she currently has no mouth.]
Have you heard of the story of Balder and mistletoe?
but the voice is familiar, as is the form in a different kind of way even if it's the first time he's actually seeing it. he tilts his head back to look up at her, laughing a little, but preparing himself for how kyoko always has some sort of information for him to learn from. ]
[ She's been herself before, just not at her usual size. There's a smile in her voice, at least.
But she just likes stories in all forms. ]
No? It's a Nordic story. Balder once had dreams that foretold his death, and in response the Goddess Frigg took oaths from everything to ensure that he would be safe from all harm.
All the gods were pleased with this, except the mischief maker, Loki. So he went to Frigg in disguise, asking if there was anything that didn't make an oath. Everything except mistletoe, because it seemed to young to swear.
And so Loki used this newly acquired knowledge, took some mistletoe and made an arrow. Giving it to a blind god and asking him to attack Balder as all the other gods did.
The arrow struck true, thus Baldr died.
The gods made the mistletoe promise that it would never again do an uncharitable deed but would forever be consecrated to acts of happiness and usefulness.
