[ it's sort of an out of body experience to be in this room with another person, though it's not necessarily a bad one. therion rarely stays in sunshade longer than a couple of days, but it is one of the few places where he rests his head in majority safety. it is a place where someone has his back. which - if he was smart, he would realize that having someone to have his back is in fact a good thing that makes him feel better most of the time, but haki in chat voice is correct.
therion busies himself for the moment - he sets his old, familiar scarf into his little backpack he keeps, puts the bag full of bandages somewhere they'll be accessible and refills his own tiny first aid kit just to keep his hands busy, to give himself a second to properly absorb the evening's events and push away any lingering embarrassment. his hand is warm, and he wars with himself briefly about how he feels about this, somewhere between fluttery and ready to jump off a bridge at himself. god.
when jiaoqiu speaks up, he glances over his shoulder. the knee rubbing doesn't go unnoticed - he grunts in acknowledgement, at first, never much of a talker. but, eventually: ]

but therion looks over his shoulder at him and jiaoqiu wrinkles his nose in his direction. ]

[ therion mutters, sassy as always, because it's true - jiaoqiu nags him constantly about eating, which he rightfully should. the only time he ever actually eats real meals is when he is with jiaoqiu.
therion says this, but pokes around in the drawers in the little kitchen and eventually produces a couple packages of plastic cutlery, sliding them over and then hopping up to sit on the counter. this never changes. he likes to be tall! he'll let jiaoqiu unpack the food, poking around, and eventually takes a piece of naan, tearing off a bit and popping it into his mouth. ]
he looks disgruntled at the counter sitting but he doesn't protest, this time. he's given up, therion refuses to not sit on the counter. so instead, jiaoqiu is obnoxious, sliding closer to lean against the counter between therion's legs with his food in hand. if you're gonna sit up there he's gonna take advantage. he eases right there and eats his curry while leaning basically in therion's lap.
this is better for his leg, anyway, obviously. he's not putting his weight on it like this. hehe. ]
[ obnoxious!!!!! actually, this is fine. he just kind of shifts his leg over so there's enough space for him to slide between his thighs. it's a little point of contact, and secretly, he really likes the sudden increase of affectionate physical contact in his life - talk about touch starved - so he just gives him a reprimand squish with his thighs for the pleased look on his face and lets him stay there.
in response to the continued nagging, he leans back a little, resting his weight on his hands. ]

he makes his little buzzy purr sound when therion rests his hand between his ears on his head. normally anybody trying to touch them gets batted away - therion's seen it, when sushang reaches to pat his ears and jiaoqiu leans away like liquid. but he's happy to let therion touch, to pet them if he wants. ]

it's a fairly long pause. but eventually, therion digs through it and pulls something out - an item that jiaoqiu has seen before, that long, kind of thin black box. he glances at it in his hand, and then shrugs, tone all casual, disinterested. ]
Just remembered something. It's useless now, so I'll probably pawn it, unless you want it.
[ as he tosses the box, underhand, to jiaoqiu! he can finally open it if he wants.
inside of the box is paring knife - a really, really high quality, nice one, set in a little bit of velvet fabric because it is Fancy. there's a thin, decorative golden line that swirls around the handle, and the blade is very, very sharp. it was clearly chosen on purpose, it clearly was not just a random trinket he picked up, considering he's been carrying it around (as jiaoqiu now knows) for at least a little while. how therion even managed to get his hands on it is a mystery, but there it is, nonetheless.
therion's very busy not looking at him as he does this? wow. let him go busy himself doing literally anything else. ]
he makes a huffy sound, but he allows it. caps his food, puts it away, and then goes to sit on the bed, honestly, because he doesn't want to stand like a dingus in the kitchen by himself until therion figures out what he wants to do. it means that he's in a little better standing to catch the box when it's tossed to him - he still nearly fumbles it because he sucks, but he manages.
when he opens the box, he actually gasps a little. holy shit!! what a fancy knife... a paring knife, too, and he very obviously knows that it's not the type of thing a thief would use as a weapon. he pulls it from the box to look it over, twirling it a few times, getting a sense of how to hold it and how sharp it is. and then carefully, he puts it back in the box. ]
What do you mean it's useless? It's perfect. [ he says, fussy, scolding a little. he puts the lid back on the box and holds it to his chest, ears laid flat against his head, expression scrunched. ]

[ he very kindly does not mention that he saw it in therion's bag ages ago, but the thought that he's kept something like this for so long makes jiaoqiu feel a whole lot of things all at once. ]
[ the scrunched reaction is kind of funny, which is good because he just looks over his shoulder in time to actually get a look at him from where he was very busily doing something (nothing) to try and not look at jiaoqiu.
it's been a while since he lifted the knife - it's been sitting in his bag for at least a month, maybe longer. he's watched jiaoqiu cook about a thousand times, watched how expertly he wielded his chef's knives the way that therion wields his switchblade, his lockpick. so, when his travels led him somewhere he could find fancy equipment like this, his first thought was not to steal things to sell them, but... to take this back to jiaoqiu. as a thank you, as something he could use, the kind of wordlessly thoughtful thing that he's very capable of doing when the conditions are right.
for the past month or so, he's debated over giving it to him and thought about his embarrassing reaction, and then considered selling it and saying fuck it all together, rinse, lather, repeat. and by the time he finally settled on a plan - to put it in his kitchen and say nothing about it - hoolay happened. and here they are now.
jiaoqiu said he stole him out of house and home. and he did. it reminded him of this little knife, a gift that was supposed to be hidden at jiaoqiu's home when things were calmer. that's gone, now - or at least, for a while, it's gone. the least he can do is give it to him, and if jiaoqiu doesn't make a big deal, they can just toss it, only - only he does. of course he makes a big deal out of it. the little gasp, the flat ears, and therion immediately looks away again, folding his arms. ]

he's not actually hurt so therion feels no remorse for feeling this way at all. he grumpily goes to put the leftovers in the fridge, looks at the little knife box, and then huffs and goes to drop onto the bed and actually settle in, taking a couple minutes to get his composure back. he's grumbly but mostly fine by the time jiaoqiu returns - messing around on his burner phone, laying on his back on the bed.
he looks over at jiaoqiu when he sits down with his brush. that tail of his is going to take up half of this bed... and still, he scoots over to make a little room. ] Primrose'll have my head if you fill this place with your hairballs.

[ he says swiftly, ear flicking. he sinks down onto the bed when therion makes room, pulling his tail into his lap. there's a moment where it looks like he might just start brushing it himself, and then he glances at therion, laying back with his phone.
a beat. and then he flips the hairbrush and offers the handle to therion. would you like to brush it? he doesn't have to, but... it is definitely something jiaoqiu has never offered him before. ]
