[ first of all, asking cyrus if he wants to teach is like asking a fish if it wants to swim. there is never, ever, ever a single time in cyrus albright's life when he does not to teach, and in those moments he is not teaching, he is so often observing.

up to this point, perhaps it has lately been more of the latter. the band of travelers have been quite busy lately - the stories of each of their journeys seem to be converging, winding together into thick threads of some kind of climax. his own, of course, culminated in the betrayal of yvon, and... well, he almost died in a hole, literally, but the quick thinking of the most studious pupil he's ever had saved his day, and he finds himself closing in slowly on the truth day by day. his adventure, while startling, was not perhaps nearly so devastating as some of the others. certainly not as alfyn's was in saintsbridge. and certainly... certainly not nearly so personal as therion's, in wellspring. that, perhaps, was one of the most visceral of them all.

and unfortunately for therion, cyrus has been observing. he is very cognizant of the relationships of others (just perhaps absolutely nothing involving himself) and the whole therion and darius debacle was... noticeable. however. he knows therion is a bit like a stray cat, too, and though he is sure the young man could use the chance to talk about whatever happened there... it may have to come with time.

so perhaps that time comes here. cyrus is nose deep in a book when therion calls him; he's smarting a little from an injury or two of his own, and there's no better distraction. however, therion gets his full attention, and at the suggestion, his face lights up. ]

Why, of course! [ snap! goes the book, as he shuts it with a flourish. ] There's nothing I'd like more. Would you like to practice magic first, my intrepid young scholar? Or perhaps a bit of sleight of hand on my own end? I could rather use the chance to stretch.

[ cyrus is cyrusing. as usual. if therion is casual and bored then he is passionate and excited about the possibility, brimming with a shine to his blue eyes. ]

[Almost immediately, Therion starts to regret this, as Cyrus' focus is turned entirely on him. If only there were a way to do this while simultaneously not being perceived... But alas, he has already committed.]

Then let's go. [That doesn't answer the questions, but whatever - picking which to start with can happen once they're away from camp.] There's another clearing nearby.

[Therion turns and stalks off to the edge of camp. It seems like he isn't going to wait on Cyrus, but he does at least pause while still within sight to make sure the scholar is following him without trouble. Even if Therion wants to blow off steam, he doesn't actually want to do so at the cost of worsening any of his ... associates' health.]

[ alas it is therion's destiny to be perceived. or, at least, that's kind of a given when you travel around with cyrus, scrutinizing king and insatiable busybody. not only that, but he cares very much about his fellow travelers, so it's the combination of being both perceived and loved, which means cyrus' very intense scrutiny is used in the worst way possible, of mentoring and providing genuine care and attention to the travelers. terrible.

he's not really surprised to not get an answer, nor is he deterred. cyrus tucks his book into his voluminous coat and trots after therion, keeping an easy pace and never getting too far away. ]

Very well. [ to the clearing! and cyrus does what cyrus does best, as he observes therion's back for a moment - he talks. ] I've been doing some reading on thievery, lately. Believe it or not, there are very few tomes published on the art of larceny. [ this is said with a light laugh, clearly joking. ] And the majority of those that are tend to be fictional tales - not usually my cup of tea, but I've absorbed them nonetheless.

[ he can start with thieving - to inch gently around the topic of darius and wellspring, delicate step by delicate step. ]
